MOUNTAIN BIKING in Casentino Forest National Park
One request we provide our guests companions or guides for MTB excursions on Casentino Forest National Park trails.
A trail to suggest might be the one that goes in a circle that around to the first part of the old Consuma road. Medium – difficult admission and practicability; it requires a quite good technical ability to face the considerable drop between the beginning and the middle of the route ( up to ‘Monte Cucco' 1142 metres ).
Usually the routes are easily practicable even if a particular care must be taken downhill back on the earthy ground.
The route starts from the sporting area of Pratovecchio and, through an asphalted road, gets to the Parish Church of Romena, one of the most important examples of the Romanesque architecture of Casentino. We suggest a short detour towards its homonymous castle.
From here go on the ancient Consuma road route to get to the village of Gualdo. The route proceeds following the CAI paths, going up towards Monte Cucco and down again up to the SR 556. On the way back, going through the SR 556 of Londa, we suggest a detour towards the Sanctuary of "Santa Maria delle Grazie", situated in the Apennine mountain and characterized by particular beauty and quietness.
Total length: 31 kilometres – estimated run time: three hours and half.
